A. There are a number of variables: what kind of plastic surgery you are having, whether you are recovering at home or hotel, your personal medical history, if you have family or friend to continue helping you after we leave, your physician's requirements, and, of course, your own preferences. Your plastic surgeon and our consulting nurse can discuss these issues with you.
A. They probably can, depending on their experience and temperament. The real question is whether that choice is best for both of you. Post-operative care during the first 24 hours after surgery can be quite demanding. You may need continuous ice applied to eyes or neck overnight. You may have a catheter in your bladder or require assistance to walk to the bathroom. You may have surgical drains which need to be periodically emptied. You may be nauseated or require expert pain management. Many plastic surgery patients prefer that a nurse provide these services initially. Your nurse will always provide you with a written medication schedule and teach your support person how to handle any procedures that you may need after we leave.
